Art Exhibition Title: Through the Window
Join us in celebrating the vibrant and insightful perspectives of artists with autism and other differential abilities through a remarkable exhibition. Delve into the kaleidoscope of creativity as the artists share their unique perspectives through captivating pieces showcasing their views of the world. From abstract compositions to detailed works, each piece invites visitors to explore the depths of imagination and emotion. Join us in embracing diversity and fostering understanding, as we honor the extraordinary talent of individuals with different learning abilities. We invite you to use the QR codes alongside each piece to gain more information on the artist, the creative process and what the pieces means to them. We are grateful to not only celebrate World Autism Day with this exhibition but also to promote inclusivity and understanding.
One of the themes proposed to the exhibition for Autism Awareness Day, themed “Windows and Doorsteps into Invisible Cities,” is all about using art to share personal and shared experiences. The proposition to imagine and share their inner worlds by thinking about how it could be and what they’d like to see through their own window (as a metaphorical interpretation) in an imaginary outside world.
The project was done in steps – starting with drawing and sketching, moving on to brainstorming together, and ending with making 3D pieces out of cardboard, papier-mâché, paint, and other recycled materials.
Beyond the main theme, everyone was encouraged to freely express their feelings, moments, or anything they wanted to get out there, on a blank page. This freedom was supported by learning about color theory and how to paint and draw in different ways.
